Smokeless Smudging

Smudging is the burning of herbs for emotional, psychic, and spiritual purification rooted in the Native American tradition. Many people smudge before a Ceremony / Ritual, to cleanse and purify, and /or to do a clearing. The herbs most commonly used for smudging are Sage, Cedar, Pine, Lavender, and Sweet Grass. Traditionally the way to smudge is to burn the clippings of he selected dried herb, rub your hands in the smoke, and then bring the smoke around your body.

In Sedona, many people venture on to the land to connect with Mother Earth…The Great Spirit…The Divine. However, with the land being so dry and the fire danger so high smudging with smoke can be a hazard. The good news is that smudging can be smokeless. The essential oils of these herbs can be placed in water and then be sprayed into the air and used in the same manner as their smoking counterparts. Solutions like these are hydrosols and can be purchased ready made for smokeless smudging ceremonies. A local place to purchase high quality oils and hydrosols is Wisdom of the Earth, an essential oil company located in Page Springs. www.WisdomoftheEarth.com Smokeless smudge products can also be found at health food stores and some crystal shops as well.

Safe smudging!
