Spring Spruce Up with Interior Designer, Lita Cox
It happens every year at this time, spring is just around the corner and looking around you start to ask yourself,
“ I really would like to make a change with some of my rooms, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what to do…”
Therefore, you just leave everything the way it was and decide that the furniture arrangement is what it is and there are not any other choices.
Choices
However, there are choices and just by changing a few pieces of furniture, moving around some art work, you can freshen up a room, transform a space and give any room a quick lift.
Hire A Professional
This is where the assistance of a professional is worth its weight in gold. Interior Designers can work with clients who simply want to look at options as to what they can do with a space that may not function as well as the client would like. Designers are trained to assess the space, look at traffic flow, and see what options the client can consider based on what the room will be used for.

Many times, clients have more than enough furniture in their homes; it just needs to be placed in different spaces. Moving artwork around gives the homeowner an opportunity to enjoy pieces that may have been placed in rooms where no one goes very often.
Rugs and Lighting
Area rugs can be changed, rearranged or purchased to define spaces in the home. Adding or changing paint color in a room gives the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to revitalizing a space. Lighting is often over looked, especially when a room is not well lit or the wrong lighting is used. Lighting is used to create moods and the use of task lighting for reading, wall sconces and torchiers are great ways to give general illumination to a space without having to punch holes in the ceiling and install recessed can lights.
Inventory
Another option is to work with a designer to do an inventory of the furniture throughout the home, see what can be moved and perhaps let go of those items that always seem to stick around, that may not always be needed. This is good if people have things in their home, they do not like and the object is just taking up space. Sometimes, people move from a different part of the country and find that some of their furniture just doesn’t work in their new home as well as it did in prior residences.
Donate
It is better to sell it, donate it and have an empty space, until the person finds something that they enjoy and works in the designated location. These are just a few tips that can transform a room or an entire home into a place that the homeowner will enjoy.
